My guests today, let just say they really Buz me off (In good way Hehe). Buzberry really cool guys and amazing posts, they were one of the 1st blogs i started reading it while ago, one of the 1st in Kuwait.
They were the 1st among bloggers to release iPhone App.
Got the chance to ask them some questions (Thanks FAH) and here what they have to say:
- Why did you choose (Buzberry) as a name to your blog?
In the mist of creating the blog, one of the challenges that we faced was choosing the name. We (the founders of Buzberry) had gathered and started thinking of the perfect name for our blog. We all agreed that we need to have a catchy name; a name that’s easy for everyone to remember. Everyone of us came out with his own list of names that made sense and were attractive, only for OZM to turn his head towards us and shout the name “Buzberry”. No one opposed!
The word “Buzberry” is a mixture of two thoughts that we had; Buzz + Berry. The word ‘Buzz’ is derived from “the news or what’s hot, what’s in, etc..” whereas the word ‘Berry’ is to represent the fruitful thoughts we try to portray. Now, as most of Buzberry readers have already noticed, ‘Buzberry’ is spelled with only one ‘Z’ (there is a missing Z) and that’s honestly because the domain name ‘Buzzberry.com’ (with the double ‘Z’) was taken. This issue started a debate on whether to ditch the name and look for something else or to stick with it; we have decided to stick with it since we believe that we can make the name..!
- Tell me about yourself?
We are all currently back in Kuwait working in the financial sector except for MHG who’s just finished his Masters in Middle Eastern Politics in the US.
- How long have you been blogging?
We have been blogging for more than three years now.
- How many writers (Members) in your blog?
Our team consists of 9 bloggers out of which two are full timers (Alvaro & FAH) whereas the rest are part timers.
- What kind of category you see your blog in?
- How did you start blogging?
When the curfew was enforced in Lebanon back in January 2007 we all happened to be at the same place at that time. The situation was a mess; no one could leave the “apartment” (OZ’s place) which by the way became our sanctuary, our home away from home. We all wanted to leave because everyone had something to do. We were all watching the news waiting anxiously what was going to happen next. Our phones were off the hook; parents were calling every minute and checking to see what happened to us. One of the guys (FAH) started showing us how easy it is to use and make a blog on a Mac. He started writing about some simple topics such as “Apple rocks!” or “Mac is back” and posted it on a blog which can be accessed via his email (now known as ‘Mobileme’ through iWeb). It all started as a hobby that developed to be an interesting obligation to uncover issues that tackle people in their everyday life, especially in the Middle East. Our mission is to offer a diverse perspective on a variety of topics to serve our cosmopolitan generation. And that, my friends, how Buzberry was born!
- What was the reaction of the people around you about your blog?
They never knew we had a blog, we kept it anonymous even to our personal environment until lately; they’ve always been supportive and excited.
- What kind of marketing method you used for your blog (How’s did you prompted your blog)?
Word of mouth and The Buzberry iPhone application.
- Do you have any new ideas coming soon to your blog?
Oh yes we do, but just wait and see.
- What do you advise the guys/girls who just started blogging?
Blogging is a way of venting out, expressing your opinion and sharing your thoughts. It is not and will never be a medium only to make people laugh, or to inform people how your aunt hates spiders.
- Any last words to your readers?
Without your support, comments, and critiques, we wouldn’t be here where we are –
